"EMS" is a small private engineering and consultancy company
entirely owned by Mr Jan Surówka. The company has carried out
among others the following works (period 1993 to date):


- Analysis of thermal insulation of a 200 MWe steam turbine
  at Rybnik Power Plant,
- Opinion (under contract to the National Fund for Environmental
  Protection and Water Management) to the "Feasibility Study on
  Geothermal District Heating in Podhale Region" made by Danish
  consulting company,
- Pre-feasibility study on woodwaste and straw utilization
  at Zelislawki Agricultural Development Center near Gdansk,
- Expert opinion (under contract to Ecofund in Warsaw) to
 "Feasibility Study on Conversion of coal fired boilers into
  coke oven gas firing at Blachownia Power Plant",
- Expert opinion to the US $ 1.6 million investment project
  of large District Heating Company in Opole for replacing
  traditional trench made underground pipelines with the preinsulated
  ones-under contract to Ecofund (Polish Debt to Environment Swap),
- Expert opinions to the Heat Supply Master Plan for the Upper
  Silesian Rybnik Coal District carried out by the leading Danish
  consultancy consortium: Bruun & Sorensen and COWI Consult,
- Business plan for coalbed methane utilization at
  Jastrzebska Coal Company plc. and Gliwice Coal Company plc. ,
- Executor of energy audit at leisure resort Arkun in Leba,
- Polish project leader and executor of Energy Audit
  at big Chemical processing Plant "Blachownia"
  ( $ US 8 million annual energy bill ) within PHARE Programe
  in a consortium with Danish Energy Analysis,
- Energy audit at large brick factory
  ($ US 1.2 million/yr energy bill),
- Translation from English into Polish of three
  brochures/handbooks on efficient, safe and environmentally
  friendly boiler operation,
- EMS is a member of COGEN Europe, organization for
  promotion of cogeneration
- Concept of modernization and development of power,
  heating, water & sewage management in Europark
  Mielec Special Economic Zone-Phare project -"EMS"
   won the international bid for this project-has just ended
   (April 1998),
- Business plan for the undertaking: Joining the hardware
  infrastructure of heat supply (i.e pipelines, heat exchanger
  stations, pumping stations etc.) at the Special Economic Zone
  Europark-Mielec to CHP Mielec (cogeneration plant),
  just finished (May 1998),
- Development of the computer program for heat and electricity
  balance of cogeneration plant (any size, any fuel) together
  with economic analyses of cogeneration plant productivity
  and economic performance, April/May 1998,
- Elaboration of a concept of process and space heating
  supply to General Motors greenfield project-car producing
  factory in Gliwice, Poland. Project under contract to EPS
  from USA,
- Conceptual design of modernization of a boilerhouse
  at "Morcinek" mine and heat delivery from the boilerhouse
  to both "Polifarb" Cieszyn-paint producer and to Cieszyn
  town-100,000 inhabitants,
- A pre-feasibility Assessment of a Coalbed Methane Recovery
  and Electricity Generation at the "Wesola mine in Poland-under
  contract to the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA),
- A Pre-feasibility Assessment of a Hypothetical Coalbed Methane
  Recovery and Gas Enrichment Project in Poland-under contract
  to the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA).
- Heat tariff for CHP Mielec (approved by Poland's.
  Energy Regulator URE),
- Series of industrial market research analyses for
 the UK industries (over 15 until May 2000),
- Imports of the UK products to Poland
  (mainly for the power industry).


And Mr Surówka working with the Polish Foundation for
Energy Efficiency has carried out the following works:

- Energy Management Course for Polish Industry developed
  together with Dansk Energi Analyse (the partner),
- Carrying out energy audits at:
    - continuous casting department of Steel Mill "Ostrowiec".
     (very big energy consumer of about 700 GWh of electricity annually),
    - three installations of the very big Nitrogen Works Kędzierzyn
      (1TWh of annual electricity consumption).
    All audits were executed in preparing the consecutive
    Energy Management Courses for Polish Industry.
- Pioneer of the Energy Management Courses for Polish Industry,
- Project leader and lecturer at the Energy Management Courses
  for Industry,
- Creator and successful director of Coalbed Methane Clearinghouse,
- Coeditor of Coalbed Methane Newsletter in Polish and English,
- Main organizer and Chairman of the International Coalbed Methane
  Utilization Conference (October 1994),
- Creator of Energy Efficiency Education Center,
- Executor of technology transfer from the USA to Poland
  in Environmental Protection (particulate removal device for
  boilers called Core Separator),
- Preparation of a business plan for a Joint Venture company
  and help in starting up the production of Core Separator in Poland.
